Chinese Music (ISSN 0192-3749) is an international refereed journal distributed to 150 countries. Chinese Music is the only journal in the world devoted wholly to the study of the music and acoustics of China, and their relationship to those of other regions of the world. Chinese Music is indexed in The Music Index and the International Index to Music Periodicals CD-ROM and abstracted by the RILM and the Modern Language Association (MLA). It provides a forum for original papers concerned with musicology, musical life, composition, acoustics, analysis, orchestration, musicians, global interactions, intercultural studies, and musical instruments. It also publishes news items of importance to the music community and the general public, as well as book and recording reviews.
Submission of Papers: Papers should contain work not published in full elsewhere, but no limit to length is set and review articles and short notes are accepted. Manuscripts for consideration must be in English only, and pinyin is the only acceptable system of transliteration from Chinese.
1. Chinese Music publishes papers oriented towards musicians and persons who have a keen interest in understanding the musical and acoustical relations between Chinese music and music of the world from a global point of view. Paper should contain work not published in full elsewhere. Authors should write concisely. A significant element of the manuscript's review will be the clarity of writing.
2. Manuscript in English should be submitted to Chinese Music, PO Box 5275, Woodridge IL 60517-0275 USA. Submit three final copies and a 3.5 inch disk (WordPerfect PC) containing the paper.
3. The manuscript should be double-spaced with one inch margins. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and placed on separate sheets, with an indication in the text as to their appropriate placement. Line drawings approximately twice the final size must be camera ready. Keep captions succinct.
4. The Title should be brief and typed on a separate sheet. The author's name should be typed below the title; the affiliation, address and telephone number of the author should also be included. In the case of co-authors, respective affiliation, address, and telephone and FAX numbers should be indicated as well.
5. The second page of the manuscript should contain only the title and a SUMMARY of the entire paper. The summary should be a review of the paper and not a repetition of the conclusions.
6. The paper begins on the third page and should not relist the authors. The paper should be subdivided into sections to aid readability. Section titles should be in bold and capitalized.
7. Reference to published literature should be quoted in the text by giving author's last name and year of publication, such as (Yang, 2001). References should be listed alphabetically in a section labeled 'REFERENCES' at the end of the paper.
Journal references should be listed as follows: Authors, Title of Paper, Journal Title in Italics, Volume in Bold, Page (Year).
Book references should be given as follows: Authors, Title of Book in Italics, Publisher, City of Publisher (Year).8. Authors must obtain written permission to reproduce copyrighted material.
